Dr. Bolen is a Clinical Psychologist with a private practice in Farmingdale, Long Island, New York.  She received her doctorate from Hofstra University and has over twenty years of experience treating adults who suffer from depression, anxiety disorders, and chronic health problems.  In her work, she utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) treatment approach, an active research-supported style.

Dr. Bolen is the About.com Guide to IBS.  About.com is part of the New York Times Company.  On this site, Dr. Bolen offers comprehensive coverage of irritable bowel syndrome, including FAQs, latest research results, and strategies for self care.  Visit the site at www.ibs.about.com.

Dr. Bolen has written two books on Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  Breaking the Bonds of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (New Harbinger, 2000) offers a CBT approach to managing IBS symptoms. In partnership with Jeffrey D. Roberts, M.S.Ed., the founder of the online support group for IBS, www.ibsgroup.org, Dr. Bolen has also published IBS Chat:  Real Life Stories and Solutions (iUniverse, 2007).  IBS Chat is a compilation of the best of the best posts to the Bulletin Board of the IBS Group and offers a wealth of practical strategies for managing symptoms, information about a wide variety of treatment options, and insight into the effect that IBS can have on a person’s life.
